O.L. Briggs Co. of Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1870s. This original 9-foot marquetry pocket billiard table, along with its matching racks, was custom-designed for a World Exposition. It was later acquired by the Bliven Family and has been passed down through four generations. The table features intricate marquetry inlays crafted from fruitwoods, gold, silver, and hundreds of mother-of-pearl inlays. Its side plaques, which appear to depict an early rendition of the “Gibson Girl” — created by Massachusetts native Charles Dana Gibson — capture the spirit of the “new woman” symbolizing independence, education, and public engagement. The table is further adorned with finely detailed spindle work throughout. The matching walnut racks mirror the table’s elegance, with complementary spindle detailing.  There are also six matching billiard spectator chairs.  Currently undergoing restoration, this exceptional billiard set is a true historical treasure.
